
The speakers of the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Armenia discussed the process of normalizing relations between the two countries.
This was announced by Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan in a post on the social network X.
He noted that on the sidelines of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Istanbul, he met with Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. According to him, the meeting highlighted with satisfaction recent progress in the normalization process, including efforts to strengthen peace and stability, as well as to expand trade and economic ties.
Simonyan emphasized the important role of the Inter-Parliamentary Union as a platform for inter-parliamentary cooperation and highly praised the efforts of Secretary General Martin Chungong in promoting dialogue.
He also welcomed the resumption of contacts between parliamentary delegations following their meeting in Geneva in October 2025 and said that an agreement had been reached to continue this cooperation.
According to him, constructive parliamentary dialogue remains a key factor in building trust between the societies of the two countries.
