Specifically, sticking to Armenia’s main unconstructive line, the Foreign Ministry in its statement claims that Azerbaijan has allegedly been blocking the Lachin road for three weeks now, thereby creating a “humanitarian crisis”.
The claims of the Armenian Foreign Ministry are unfounded, since the Lachin road is actually open for humanitarian purposes. Photos and videos are published every day showing the unimpeded passage of supply vehicles, passenger cars and ambulances on this road. More than 15 cars went up and down the road today alone.
Such statements and actions of Armenia are doomed to failure, just as Yerevan’s recent unsuccessful attempt to push with France’s help an anti-Azerbaijani resolution in the UN Security Council concerning the situation around the Lachin road. France, a member of the UN Security Council, failed to have this statement adopted in 10 days, which is literally a great disgrace for Paris and the defeat of the Franco-Armenian tandem.
The trilateral statement to which the Armenian Foreign Ministry refers specifies that the Lachin road can only be used for humanitarian purposes. Of course, the separatists, who have set up an illegal business of looting Azerbaijan’s natural resources in Karabakh under the patronage of Ruben Vardanyan, are worried that they cannot take the mined gold via the Lachin road to Armenia. This is why they want to paint the situation as a “humanitarian crisis” and get the international community to put pressure on Azerbaijan.
Therefore, this statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry does not serve the purpose of post-conflict normalization and is aimed at misleading the international community.
