This was stated in a statement released by the press service of the President of the EU Council, Charles Michel, following the meeting in Brussels between the Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, the Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the President’s Administration, Hikmet Hajiyev, and the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan.
“Concrete actions and decisive compromise solutions are needed in all areas of the normalization process. The EU believes that both Yerevan and Baku should use the possible meeting in Grenada to publicly declare their commitment to each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, in accordance with the agreements reached earlier in Prague and Brussels,” the statement emphasizes.
As reported, during the Brussels meeting between Hikmet Hajiyev and Armen Grigoryan, there was an intensive exchange of views on the upcoming meeting of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, expected to take place on October 5th in Grenada as part of the European Political Community summit. It was noted that the participants of the meeting highlighted the mutual interest of Armenia and Azerbaijan in using the possible meeting in Grenada to continue efforts towards normalization of relations. In this regard, Armen Grigoryan and Hikmet Hajiyev participated in negotiations regarding possible concrete steps, such as border delimitation, security, communications, humanitarian issues, and a broader peace agreement at the possible Grenada meeting to make progress in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
As stated in the EU press service statement, now both Brussels and Moscow insist on mutual recognition not only of territorial integrity but also of sovereignty, meaning the ownership of Karabakh by Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over Karabakh. This is precisely the situation that has developed in the region after the domestic war of 2020 and local counter-terrorism measures on September 20-21. Earlier, the changes that occurred in the region after the 44-day Patriotic War and local counter-terrorism measures were recognized and confirmed by Russia. Thus, both Moscow and the West accept the existing realities and do not attempt to facilitate an Armenian revenge. The Karabakh issue is closed, and the “miatsum” project has come to an inglorious end!
