Teymur Musayev congratulated Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on his re-election as Director-General of the World Health Organization and thanked the organization for the support provided to Azerbaijan over the past period.
Speaking about Azerbaijan’s successful experience in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, the minister said over 90 percent of the target population had been vaccinated and pointed out that Azerbaijan was one of the first countries to join the COVAX initiative. Teymur Musayev also talked about the recent reforms in public health protection.
Director-General of the WHO Tedros Adhan Ghebreyesus voiced his appreciation of the importance President Ilham Aliyev attaches to cooperation with the organization. He brought up the humanitarian aid provided by Azerbaijan to the WHO during the pandemic, as well as the country’s global calls for international cooperation in the fight against the coronavirus.
Emphasizing close contacts with the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, Mr. Ghebreyesus said that he was looking forward to participating in the forum to be held this June. He also said that the international forum was an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with the work carried out in Azerbaijan in the field of primary healthcare services.
The parties exchanged views on strengthening WHO preparedness and response to health emergencies, expanding academic activities, as well as other issues of mutual interest.
