During the visit to the library, Afandiyeva and Ambassador Ismayilov held a meeting with Dr. Al Kawari to discuss future collaborations and cultural exchanges. Afandiyeva spoke about the establishment of the Turkic Cultural and Heritage Foundation, its activities and future projects aimed at promoting the history and culture of the Turkic peoples as well as the importance of publications and books about their historical heritage and culture.
The meeting was followed by a tour of the library.
Dr. Al Kawari said: “The work by the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation is truly inspiring and reflects the history, culture and art of the Turkic world as well as commemorating the literature, folklore, customs and traditions of the Turkic peoples. We look forward to collaborating in joint cultural projects to promote our shared history and cultural values.”
The International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation was established on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H E Ilham Aliyev, and with the support of the heads of state of the Republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkiye.
The foundation started its activities after the appointment of Afandiyeva as the first president of the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation at the 2015 summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States, held in Astana.
The purpose of the foundation is to protect, study and promote the culture and heritage of Turkic-speaking peoples through the support and implementation of relevant projects and programmes.
To achieve these goals, the foundation cooperates with various international organisations by supporting activities in culture, education, science, human rights, tourism, information and communication, as well as other priority areas among the Turkic people.
As part of its vision to be one of the world’s preeminent centres of learning, research, and culture, the library will continue to invest its efforts to share knowledge and empower future generations across and beyond Qatar.
