Economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy is of great importance to both countries. Italy is one of Azerbaijan’s main economic and trading partners within the European Union. Joint activities in the oil and gas sector are especially important, and the two countries are also expanding ties in other areas of the economy, including agriculture, construction, and services. Today, more than a hundred Italian companies are involved in economic projects in Azerbaijan, highlighting the high level of trust and mutual benefit in the relations between the two countries.
Italy also plays an active role in the restoration of Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, including the restoration of cultural and historical sites. The restoration of ancient monuments in cities like Shusha, with the participation of Italian companies, symbolizes the trust and cultural cooperation between the countries. Additionally, Italy supports Azerbaijan’s efforts in demining and rebuilding infrastructure on the liberated lands.
Education is another significant area of collaboration. One of the brightest examples of this close cooperation is the establishment of the Italy-Azerbaijan University. This institution plays a key role in training specialists in priority areas for Azerbaijan, such as agriculture, architecture, engineering, and international governance. The university also promotes the integration of Azerbaijan’s education system into the global system, improving the quality of education and introducing innovations.
Political cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy is based on mutual respect for each other’s interests and has a strategic nature. In recent years, Italy has consistently supported Azerbaijan’s fair stance on many important international issues, including the resolution of the conflict with Armenia. During the Karabakh War, Italy took an objective position, supporting Azerbaijan and sending a delegation to assess the consequences of the conflict. Italian senators witnessed firsthand the devastating effects caused by Armenia during the conflict and expressed their support for Azerbaijan’s peace initiatives.
Thus, bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Italy continue to develop and deepen at all levels. President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Italy is another step toward further strengthening the strategic partnership and expanding cooperation, contributing to stability in the region and on the international stage.
