President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, on March 3, hosted a delegation led by European Commission Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen, discussing ways to expand Azerbaijan’s electricity exports to European markets and strengthen broader energy ties with the EU.
The meeting took place during the 12th ministerial session of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 4th ministerial session of the Green Energy Advisory Council in Baku.
Dan Jørgensen highlighted the importance of the event, stating that “partnership with Azerbaijan is important for the European Commission” and noting the EU’s interest in expanding this cooperation.
President Aliyev referenced last year’s visits to Azerbaijan by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas, and EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, describing the active engagement of both sides as “a demonstration of the will of both parties to deepen cooperation in energy and communications.”
The discussions focused on Azerbaijan’s role in European energy security, prospects for expanding electricity exports to the European market, and potential collaboration in the natural gas and green energy sectors.
