President Aliyev began by reflecting on the three-decade-long history of cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO, marking it as a period of beneficial partnership. He recounted Azerbaijan’s active participation in peacekeeping operations in Kosovo and Afghanistan, highlighting the nation’s commitment to its collaborative efforts with NATO. “The NATO-Azerbaijan partnership has already had a long history – more than 30 years of good partnership,” Aliyev stated, adding, “Azerbaijan participated in peacekeeping operations in Kosovo and Afghanistan, and that was a great experience for us.”
The president then shifted focus to the ongoing peace negotiations with Armenia, revealing a proactive approach by Azerbaijan in initiating peace talks. He emphasized the constructive dialogue through seven rounds of exchanges and the positive momentum towards a peaceful resolution, signaling a hopeful proximity to peace. “Today, we are in an active phase of peace talks with Armenia,” he mentioned, underscoring the significance of recent high-level meetings aimed at border delimitation and conflict settlement.
Aliyev expressed optimism about the potential for a breakthrough in relations with Armenia, which could transform the South Caucasus region by ushering in a long-awaited era of peace following the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. “As a result of the restoration of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, we are very close, I think, and I hope, to having a breakthrough,” he conveyed, hinting at the profound regional implications of such a development.
On the domestic front, President Aliyev proudly noted the advancements and reforms within Azerbaijan’s armed forces, emphasizing the enhancement of defense capabilities and professional standards. “Reforms in our Armed Forces have led to good results. We are modernizing our defense capability and can demonstrate a high level of professionalism today,” he affirmed, highlighting the nation’s efforts in strengthening its military in line with modern standards.
