“France is initiating a pro-Armenian resolution in the UN Security Council.
“The interview of President Macron to Le Point, where he confirmed that Paris would do everything in its power to prevent Baku from restoring its sovereignty over the entire territory of Karabakh, caused a stir in Armenia. This sorry excuse for a president, despised by the French themselves, spewed out a menacing phrase: “…now is not the time for diplomacy.” That was supposed to make us shake with fear. It seems that Macron wants to start a war with Azerbaijan. Are you going to send airplanes to bomb our country or commandeer the Foreign Legion? You don’t have the guts. The French military is smarter than its fidgety leader and will not resort to any reckless ventures, no matter how hard Macron may try. So, we should expect new anti-Azerbaijani invectives in the UN Security Council, in the European Union, information attacks, threats of sanctions,” the expert said.
“According to French and Armenian media, Paris was unhappy with the UN Security Council’s discussion of Armenia’s appeal regarding the humanitarian situation of Karabakh Armenians and decided to initiate a resolution. This is seemingly a lost cause, as there is no consensus even among the five permanent members of the UN Security Council. Any resolution that does not amount to empty appeals must take into account the reality. And the reality is that the document must refer to the Trilateral Statement of November 10, 2020 and acknowledge the role of Russia, which is present on the ground in the form of its peacekeeping contingent. Without this, Moscow considers any resolution useless. However, taking into account Russia’s actions in Ukraine, the US and UK are strongly opposed to giving the Russians any authority in Karabakh. France, which earlier initiated a draft resolution during its presidency in the UN Security Council, faced this conflict and was forced to withdraw its draft resolution at the consultation stage,” Musabayov reflects.
“Apparently now Paris wants to make the controversy public and bring the issue to a vote in order to demonstrate which states oppose the adoption of a resolution in support of Armenian claims. It was no coincidence that Armenian media made inquiries to the US and British embassies accusing these countries of obstructing the adoption of the relevant resolution in the UN Security Council. Well, France’s diplomacy is sinking to the level of cheap showmanship. The fuss in favor of the Armenians in the Security Council will not bring it any dividends. And Paris will not be able to impose collective sanctions against Azerbaijan in the European Union either. After all, the French rooster may have a loud crow, but it is mostly the Germans who lay eggs in Europe. Berlin has not forgotten how to count and is unlikely to sacrifice mutually beneficial cooperation with Baku in the energy sector and transportation logistics because of Macron’s absurd ambitions. All the commotion raised by the French president can have only one outcome, namely torpedoing the process of normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations and achievement of lasting peace in the region. There will be no other culprit to look for,” the MP summed up.
