“We are also concerned that the trilateral agreements reached at several summits between Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan in 2020-2022 have stalled. I mentioned the resumption of transport links and the trilateral commission that was working on this issue, but it has almost stopped meeting. Yerevan believes that these matters should be addressed directly with Azerbaijan, and if they can manage that, then so be it,” said the head of Russian diplomacy during his speech to faculty and students at MGIMO University, as reported by TASS.
Lavrov also noted that Russia should be involved in consulting the process of delimiting the state border, but this is not happening.
“They don’t want it, and instead they seek to constantly involve the West, the United States, the European Union, and Paris to provide their aegis for any processes. That is their choice, but they must negotiate, first and foremost, with their Azerbaijani neighbors. There is no other way,” the Russian Foreign Minister added.
However, according to Lavrov, “despite all the differences and disagreements,” Russia and its partners “have an understanding of where each stands, and there is a desire, and already some results, in terms of bringing our approaches closer to developing coordinated parallel processes,” which will ultimately have a positive impact.
