French President Emmanuel Macron, among the tasks for the armed forces in 2024, mentioned ensuring the defense of overseas territories, briefly touched upon the Balkans, and emphasized that: ‘…at the center of our attention is… strengthening our position and making historical decisions, especially in relation to Armenia (?!)’. Political analyst Rasim Musabayov wrote about this on his Facebook.
‘What can we say about this? For the first time in Europe, since World War II, a full-scale war has erupted due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The Middle East is in turmoil. Following the terrorist attack by Palestinian HAMAS on Israel and the attacks by Yemeni Houthis in the Red Sea, Hezbollah’s involvement in military actions from Lebanon is expected.
France is being expelled from its traditional sphere of influence in North Africa. All this is happening right now, while President Macron is pontificating about Armenia, whose security, I remind you, is ensured not by Paris, but by a mutual defense treaty with Russia and membership in the CSTO. The French Parliament and government are showing rare unanimity with President Macron. Thus, newly appointed Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné, barely settling into his office, made a statement that: ‘France will ensure constant support for Armenia’ and that: ‘We need to seek a just and lasting peace, based on respect for law and territorial integrity, as well as ensuring the right to a dignified life for the population, respecting their memory, history, and culture.’
He speaks beautifully. However, we have not forgotten that for a quarter of a century of Armenian occupation of our territories, we have not heard words of support for Azerbaijan from French politicians. Therefore, we have every right to ignore the benevolent calls and warnings of French politicians,” noted Musabayov.
