Iran may strike Israel from Baku

There are widespread allegations that other forces are behind the war between Hamas and Israel. Regional and global actors are said to be steering this war, fueling it.

It would be easier to say which countries are not on the list of suspects… but the most frequently mentioned one is Iran.

Allegations that Iran is the hands and mind behind this war remain serious. The main reason is that it is known to the world that it has always nurtured and protected Hamas financially, militarily, morally, and politically. According to the claims of experts who proceed from this logic, it is official Tehran that imposed the terrorist organization on Israel.

There are speculations that Iran has many goals with regard to Israel.

First of all, being located in the same region, these two hostile states are a serious threat to each other. From time to time, they conduct intelligence and military attacks on each other. Israel is in the lead here. Official Tel Aviv never denied that Israel was behind the killing and kidnapping of Iran’s nuclear scientists and high-ranking military personnel.

Second, Israel is the outpost and ally of the United States, the main enemy of Iran, in the Middle East. Although in recent years Israel has tried to stop being an outpost, to become independent, and even to confront the United States on some issues, it still effectively remains one. This is one of the factors that tie Tehran’s hands.

Third, Israel in some ways prevents Iran from becoming a nuclear power (see previous paragraph). In this issue, Israel also increases political pressure on Tehran.

Fourth, one of the things that worries Iran the most is Israel-Azerbaijan relations. Azerbaijan’s rapprochement with Israel against the backdrop of the former’s rapid strengthening after the 44-day Patriotic War, has thrown a monkey-wrench into Tehran’s dream. We all remember this time last year when Iran pulled its troops to the border with Azerbaijan, threatening to invade our country, conducting simulations of plans to attack Azerbaijan during military exercises. SEPAH forces exposed us to an open threat in the border areas. One of the main goals here was to delay our opening an embassy in Israel, or to force official Baku to back down from this decision. Azerbaijan gave a response to Iran that it still cannot recover from. The embassy was opened after all, and our ties with Israel expanded…

Fifth, Iran cannot accept the rapprochement between Israel and Türkiye. It is seriously concerned about it. Tehran needs these two countries to be enemies. Iran knows very well that when Israel attacks Gaza, Türkiye’s response is harsh. Gaza is one of the red lines of Erdoğan’s government. Ankara is uncompromising in this matter.

When you put all these things together, logic says that yes, Iran is behind Hamas’s attack on Israel.

After the attack on Israel, the image of this country changed to a great extent. The Jewish state, thought to be impregnable and invincible, was shaken by the attack. There is no more myth about Israel. Hamas has pierced its armor. It is a factor to consider.

Now official Tel Aviv is apparently not satisfied with repelling attacks inside the country. It can also increase the protection of its diplomatic missions. Security of embassies is always Israel’s soft underbelly, and its enemies love to hit it there.

Israel’s embassies in various countries have always been the target of Iran, Iran-supported Hezbollah, and Hamas. Israel’s embassy in Baku has been subjected to terrorist attacks several times in the last 15 years. The last such incident happened in the summer of this year. The State Security Service was able to neutralize the terrorists in a timely manner.

On July 10, 2023, the State Security Service reported that a foreign national who had planned to commit a terrorist attack on the territory of Azerbaijan had been detained. He was identified as Fawzan Musa Khan, citizen of Afghanistan born in 1990.

The State Security Service also released a secretly recorded video of the individuals planning the terrorist attack, but it was not revealed which country the embassy belonged to.

Israeli press reported that Fawzan Musa Khan had been watching the country’s embassy. In the end, it became clear that the terrorists had been planning an attack on Israel’s embassy in Baku.

You may recall that in 2008, Hezbollah wanted to blow up Israel’s embassy in Azerbaijan. For this purpose, the organization sent Lebanese nationals Ali Karakin and Ali Najem Aladdin to Baku.

While Israel’s is distracted by the war and “losing blood”, Hezbollah and Hamas may target the embassies of this country again. We have not forgotten that Iran has a track record of terrorist attacks on embassies, the latest of which was carried out in the embassy of Azerbaijan in Tehran.
