Emphasizing the successful development of bilateral relations between our countries, Ilham Aliyev noted that mutual visits at the level of heads of state and other levels contribute to the expansion of ties. The President of Azerbaijan touched upon the importance of interparliamentary cooperation, reports Azertag.
The head of state said that after ensuring the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, historical opportunities for achieving peace have arisen in the region. Referring to the activities of the Minsk Group co-chairs, the President of Azerbaijan said that they had not achieved any results while the occupation of our territories continued. Noting that there are currently very good and favorable opportunities for advancing the peace agenda, the head of state emphasized that positive agreements have been reached in the bilateral process on the delimitation and demarcation of the border.
Ilham Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan has resolved this conflict. Thus, in international relations, one conflict has found its solution. However, despite this, it is regrettable that new conflict hotspots are emerging in the world.
The head of state also touched upon Daiga Mieriņa’s visit to Karabakh.
Emphasizing that the delegation was given the opportunity to visit Karabakh, the Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia said they were pleased to visit Shusha and other places in Karabakh.
The guest noted that although diplomatic relations between the two countries were established 30 years ago, the history of cultural ties between our peoples has deeper roots. In this regard, she recalled with satisfaction that Latvian artist Julius Straume lived and worked as a teacher in Shusha over 100 years ago, creating a collection of Azerbaijani carpets there.
Daiga Mieriņa conveyed congratulations on the occasion of COP29 being held in Azerbaijan.
Thanking for the congratulations, the head of state informed that the President of Latvia would also visit our country to participate in COP29.
During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the relations between our countries and mutual support within international organizations. Gratitude was once again expressed to Azerbaijan for supporting Latvia’s candidacy for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council. Latvia’s support for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union and NATO, and our country’s contribution to the energy security of EU member states were highly appreciated. The role of Azerbaijan in the development of the Middle Corridor and its joint activities with the countries of the region were noted.
During the conversation, issues of cooperation between our countries in agriculture, tourism, and other areas were discussed, it was emphasized that Latvia has very good experience in agriculture, and interest in cooperation with Azerbaijan in this direction was expressed.
