“Despite the fact that radical groups affiliated with the political opposition and funded from abroad have carried out widespread violence against state institutions and law enforcement structures, Georgian law enforcement officers, with the exception of a few regrettable incidents, acted in accordance with the highest standards of human rights,” stated the Georgian Foreign Ministry in response to a comment from Paris, which expressed concern over the use of disproportionate force against demonstrators in Tbilisi.
The Georgian foreign ministry advises the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs to “follow the developments in Georgia more closely and make objective conclusions.”
“We remind you that the Government of Georgia refrained from issuing a critical statement towards France even when law enforcement in Paris confronted protesters with brutal methods, completely incompatible with universal human rights standards,” the statement from the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
