“Today is a very sad day for Europe, which is the result of the unbalanced policy of the majority of Western so-called ‘democracies’, which have failed to resolve the issue of the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia over 30 years,” she said in an interview with Trend, as reported by AA.
Goulet mentioned that it is easier to blame Azerbaijan than Armenia, and that this is unfair.
It should be noted that on January 24, the delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan in PACE made a statement at the meeting of the structure in connection with the initiative to challenge its credentials.
The statement indicated that, unfortunately, PACE is being used as a platform for attacks on certain member states. The fundamental principles of PACE are used by certain biased groups to promote their narrow interests. Political corruption, discrimination, ethnic and religious hatred, double standards, arrogance, and chauvinism have become the prevailing practice in PACE.
The Azerbaijani delegation believes that the initiative to challenge the credentials of the Azerbaijani delegation in PACE is part of this vicious campaign.
According to Azerbaijani parliamentarians, this initiative is a deliberate and unacceptable attempt at unfounded interference in the current electoral process in Azerbaijan and a clear example of nefarious actions to undermine the functioning of democratic institutions in the country.
According to the statement, the proposed refusal to ratify the credentials of the Azerbaijani delegation will be a serious blow to the authority and impartiality of the Council of Europe as a whole, and the responsibility for its serious and irreversible consequences will be fully borne by its initiators.
“Nobody in the world, including those sitting in this hall can speak with Azerbaijan in the language of threat and blackmailing. Never before in the history of the PACE, this organization behaved in such disgraceful manner. In the face of current unbearable atmosphere of racism, Azerbaijanophobia and Islamophobia in the PACE, the delegation of Azerbaijan decides to cease its engagement with and presence at the PACE until further notice,” the Azerbaijani delegation in PACE emphasized in their statement.
After reading the statement, the Azerbaijani delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe left the meeting hall.
