In the interview, the MEP voiced a series of Armenian narratives. She expressed concern about the sovereignty of Armenia and urged Yerevan not to discuss the issue of the right of Western Azerbaijanis to return, and the opening of regional communications. She also attempted to justify Armenia’s arms race and the actions of Armenian war criminals who are under investigation in Baku.
“There is no place for any ‘Western Azerbaijan’ or ‘corridor’ narrative. Connectivity will come as a positive outcome of a peace agreement, respectful of the sovereignty of Armenia, not as a precondition…A sustainable peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan should be the common goal of both countries. So far, Armenia has shown its good will and readiness for compromise. Baku should urgently reciprocate. The sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries must be respected…Let us not forget as well the release of all war prisoners and respect for cultural heritage…As regards military equipment purchases, every independent country has a duty to defend itself and to refrain from military aggression,” the Armenian sympathizer stated.
Let us clarify that Loiseau’s latest tirade was not unexpected, but it clearly demonstrates that this woman still serves the interests of global Armenians. It is evident that she is not doing so without compensation.
Earlier, Loiseau actively advocated for the deployment of an expanded EU spy mission on Armenian territory along the conditional border with Azerbaijan, as she put it, to “deter new attacks from Baku.” She also repeatedly initiated resolutions against Azerbaijan.
Loiseau’s openly hostile stance towards Azerbaijan took on a particular intensity after Armenia’s defeat in the Second Karabakh War. Since then, she has not only continued to tirelessly defend Armenian interests on various international platforms, but also supports the position of official Paris, which openly backed Armenia’s aggressive ambitions and, in recent years, has actively supplied Yerevan with deadly weapons. In violation of international law, France not only ignores provocations from Armenia, but also turns a blind eye to the anti-Azerbaijani actions of its representatives in the European Parliament. As is well known, there are plenty of pro-Armenian parliamentarians in the European Parliament. As a result, relations between Baku and the EU have deteriorated.
By the way, this nuance is also noted by analysts at the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center). In a recent statement, in response to an article by the Armenian online resource Civilnet titled “Azerbaijan’s digital war on France,” the Center highlighted that official Paris accuses Baku of its failures in foreign policy, including international issues and problems in relations with France’s overseas territories.
“Armenia, on the other hand, continues to benefit from France’s support, using Paris to exert pressure on Azerbaijan,” the AIR Center statement said.
The European Parliament has long been a platform for exerting pressure on Azerbaijan through biased resolutions. For example, in February 2024, the European Parliament adopted two resolutions, each calling for sanctions against Azerbaijan and the suspension of the Memorandum of Understanding on strategic energy partnership. It is also worth noting that, most recently, it was at the initiative of Nathalie Loiseau that, ahead of COP29, the European Parliament adopted a defamatory resolution against Baku titled “Situation in Azerbaijan, violation of human rights and international law and relations with Armenia.”
“Proud to have convinced a very large majority of the European Parliament to vote on the resolution I presented regarding Azerbaijan on the eve of COP 29,” Loiseau boasted on the social media platform X.
In Baku, the provocative statements of European parliamentarians like Loiseau are no longer responded to, but appropriate conclusions are being drawn. For Azerbaijan, it is clear that the provocative actions of European Parliament members are aimed at hindering the establishment of peace between Baku and Yerevan. This fact is also highlighted in the latest statement by the Western Azerbaijan Community, which condemns the unfounded calls and demands directed at Baku by Nathalie Loiseau in the mentioned Armenian publication. The Community emphasized that the biased stance of the European parliamentarian is directed against the Western Azerbaijanis and the establishment of peace, which fully reflects the current state of affairs in the corrupt European Parliament.
Indeed, isn’t it better for the European parliamentarians to address the log in their own eye rather than search for a speck in someone else’s?
