Aghayev warned that the meeting could potentially create new divisions in the already volatile South Caucasus region, possibly emboldening Armenia to undertake provocative actions against Azerbaijan. He stressed the detrimental impact of such developments, particularly given the delicate stage of peace negotiations between the two nations.
The ambassador also criticized the European Union’s role, alleging that it has failed to facilitate confidence-building measures between Azerbaijan and Armenia and has instead become a platform for anti-Azerbaijani propaganda. Additionally, he raised alarm over reports of certain EU members contributing to the militarization of Armenia and plans to provide military assistance under the European Peace Facility.
Aghayev underscored the importance of all parties refraining from actions that could undermine peace efforts, especially during this critical period where opportunities for lasting peace, stability, and security in the region are within reach.
