According to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Prime Ministers first held a one-on-one meeting, which was then followed by an expanded meeting with the participation of delegations from both countries.
During the meeting, the parties noted the high level of Azerbaijani-Russian strategic partnership in various fields, highlighted the dynamic development of bilateral relations thanks to the close contacts and joint efforts of the presidents of the two countries.
The heads of government discussed current issues of trade-economic and investment cooperation. Special attention was paid to the implementation – according to the agreements and instructions of the heads of state – of joint projects in the energy, industrial, transport, agricultural, and cultural-humanitarian fields.
Emphasizing the importance of progressive development of trade-economic cooperation, the sides expressed satisfaction with the record level of mutual trade achieved in 2023, exceeding 4.3 billion US dollars. It was also expressed confidence that the trend of increasing trade turnover will be maintained.
The heads of government noted the increase in investment interaction, confirmed the mutual interest in continuing cooperation on priority investment projects.
The high dynamics of industrial cooperation were underlined, including the successful implementation of joint projects in Azerbaijan for the production and assembly of cargo, commercial vehicles, and the production of pharmaceuticals.
The transport-transit sphere was seen as a key direction of Azerbaijani-Russian cooperation. The volume of freight traffic between Azerbaijan and Russia increased by more than 11 percent at the end of 2023.
The parties acknowledged the significance of the international North-South transport corridor, welcomed joint efforts to bring the corridor to full capacity. In this context, the importance of synchronous work on improving road and railway infrastructure, developing checkpoints across the state border was noted.
Satisfaction was expressed with the traditionally high level of cultural-humanitarian cooperation. The sides advocated for further activation of cultural, scientific, and youth exchanges, as well as the development of interaction in the field of education.
The parties also welcomed the expansion of interregional interaction, as evidenced by the successful holding of the 12th Azerbaijani-Russian interregional forum in the Stavropol Territory.
Ali Asadov and Mikhail Mishustin discussed the prospects for further increasing mutually beneficial cooperation, confirmed readiness for active joint work on all current issues of mutual interest for Azerbaijan and Russia.
As a result of the meeting, a number of documents were signed to increase bilateral cooperation in the fields of tourism and culture, as well as to develop checkpoints and road infrastructure through the Azerbaijani-Russian state border.
