Azerbaijan and Brazil have agreed to establish a symbolic route from Baku, where COP29 was held in 2024, to Belém, which will host COP30 in 2025, in order to attract global climate financing.
This was stated by Elchin Amirbayov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for Special Assignments, in an interview with Agência Brasil.
“We understand that this is an ambitious goal, but if all investors join forces and are guided by political will, I believe we can achieve it,” Amirbayov said.
He emphasized that one of the legacies of COP29 for Brazil at COP30 will be the advancement of transparency and inclusive participation in the consensus-building process.
“We identified divergences among the parties and found solutions to reach a historic consensus on climate financing, which was no easy task,” Amirbayov added.
He noted that the main purpose of COP is to ensure that leaders deliver on their promises and return to their countries with practical solutions.
Amirbayov described COP29 as a major success and highlighted the importance of exchanging views with Brazil’s COP30 President André Corrêa do Lago.
“Our countries worked very closely in the fight against climate change,” he said.
The main goal, according to him, is to ensure that Brazil carries forward the legacy of Baku.
“The most important outcome of COP29 in Baku was the consensus reached on securing $300 billion per year in climate crisis financing,” Amirbayov stated.
