On September 14 in Khankendi, police officers prevented an armed incident. A local resident of Armenian origin, Karen Avanesyan (born 1967), had earlier hidden a Kalashnikov rifle, four magazines of ammunition, and five grenades in a forested area. After retrieving the weapons, he headed toward the site of a mass event.
When officers attempted to detain him, Avanesyan threw three grenades and opened fire at the police. He was wounded by return fire and apprehended. One police officer was injured.
The Prosecutor General’s Office and the State Security Service have opened a criminal case in connection with the incident, and investigative operations are ongoing.
