According to him, Azerbaijan wants to resume negotiations with Armenia to achieve peace.
“Of course, if Armenia attacks us, we won’t just sit idly by. But I don’t believe it is in Armenia’s interest. We need to return to the negotiation table and take advantage of the European Union’s desire to advance the peace process. We need to talk about border delimitation, lines of communication. If Armenia joins our peace and stability efforts, we are fully prepared to contribute. Charles Michel did a good job as President of the European Council, facilitating the resumption of negotiations. We are ready once again to negotiate with the European Union in a trilateral format,” he noted.
Amirbayov added that Azerbaijan will once again confirm its commitment to unconditionally respect the territorial integrity of countries of the peace agreement.
“We will put an end to this hostility that has lasted almost thirty years. Armenia’s statements that Azerbaijan is preparing for a new war are completely unfounded. We respect the territorial integrity of Armenia, as we do all other countries in the world,” he said.
Amirbayov pointed out that a day after the end of local anti-terrorist activities, a dialogue began between the central authority of Azerbaijan and representatives of the Armenian community. “In ten days, we held three meetings. We tried to present our view on their social, economic, political, humanitarian, and religious rights. This clearly shows that the Azerbaijani government has no intention of depriving these people of their rights. However, to live in peace with Azerbaijanis, they must know that the authority belongs to Azerbaijan. They must recognize the sovereignty of our country,” stated E. Amirbayov.
