The Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II, was buried at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi, Georgia”s capital, Report said.
An Azerbaijani delegation led by Milli Majlis Speaker Sahiba Gafarova conveyed the Azerbaijani people”s deep condolences to the Georgian nation.
Speakers at the ceremony included the Ecumenical Patriarch, Georgia”s president, the parliamentary speaker, the prime minister, and the honorary chair of the Georgian Dream party.
The funeral procession began at the Holy Trinity Cathedral and carried the patriarch”s casket with full honors to the Sioni Cathedral. Bells rang across churches nationwide, and hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets to pay their respects.
The Azerbaijani delegation also included Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazada, chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov, and a group of Milli Majlis deputies.
An Azerbaijani delegation led by Speaker of Parliament Sahiba Gafarova traveled to Tbilisi to attend the funeral of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II, Report informs.
The delegation also includes Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazada and Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov.
During the visit, the delegation will convey the deep condolences and respect of the Azerbaijani people to the Georgian people.
Ilia II passed away on March 17 at the age of 93. The farewell ceremony will be accompanied by a procession from the Holy Trinity Cathedral to the Sioni Cathedral, where Ilia II will be buried at 15:00.
