On March 2, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Commission Alexey Overchuk, the Presidential press service reported.
During the meeting, the Russian side expressed sincere gratitude to the leadership of Azerbaijan for the prompt assistance provided in evacuating Russian citizens from the Islamic Republic of Iran amid the complex and tense situation in the region.
A detailed exchange of views took place on the agenda of Azerbaijani-Russian relations.
It was noted that, in line with the agreements reached by the leaders of Azerbaijan and Russia during their meeting in Dushanbe on October 9, 2025, the parties will soon implement a set of practical steps to resolve the issues arising from the crash of the AZAL aircraft on December 25, 2024.
The sides emphasized their mutual commitment to the continued progressive development of mutually beneficial trade and economic, investment, industrial, and transport and logistics cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia.
The meeting also reviewed prospects for the development of regional transport communications.
A shared intention to continue work on advancing the International North–South Transport Corridor was confirmed.
Certain humanitarian issues were also discussed.
The conversation took place in a friendly and constructive atmosphere traditionally characteristic of the interstate dialogue between Russia and Azerbaijan.
