President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who is on an official visit to Serbia, held talks in Belgrade with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and took part in a ceremony marking the exchange of bilateral documents, as well as the first meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council between the two countries.
The visit began with an official welcoming ceremony at Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport, where a guard of honor was lined up for the Azerbaijani leader. Following the performance of the national anthems, the presidents inspected the honor guard and introduced members of their official delegations.
As part of the visit program, Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited Tasmajdan Park, where they laid wreaths at the monuments of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and prominent Serbian writer Milorad Pavic.
The leaders’ negotiations started with a one-on-one meeting and later continued in an expanded format. The central event was the inaugural session of the Azerbaijan–Serbia Strategic Partnership Council, reflecting the growing bilateral cooperation in economic, energy, humanitarian, and information spheres.
A document exchange ceremony was held following the talks. The sides signed an agreement on cooperation in food safety, arrangements on the design, construction, and management of a gas turbine power plant in Serbia, as well as memorandums of understanding between the two countries’ economy ministries. Additional agreements covered cooperation in media and communications, culture for 2026–2030, sports, and health insurance systems.
After the negotiations, Ilham Aliyev and Aleksandar Vucic delivered press statements, highlighting the importance of the strategic partnership and the further deepening of Azerbaijan–Serbia relations.
