A third airport built on the liberated territories of Azerbaijan will be inaugurated in Lachin. The official ceremony will take place tomorrow with the participation of Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also expected to attend, according to Turkish media.
The Lachin International Airport has become the highest-altitude airport in the country — located at 1,800 meters above sea level. Its construction began in 2021 in mountainous terrain. The airport is situated 30 km from Lachin, 60 km from Kalbajar, and 70 km from Shusha. The runway is 3 kilometers long and 60 meters wide, and the terminal is designed to handle 200 passengers per hour.
On May 26, the airport officially received international status, bringing the total number of international airports in Azerbaijan to nine.
The Lachin Airport is expected to give a strong boost to tourism and trade in the region. Previously, Erdoğan and Aliyev inaugurated the Fuzuli and Zangilan International Airports.
