On May 7, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held an expanded meeting with To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. As part of the visit, the two leaders also delivered a joint press statement.
During his address, President Aliyev emphasized the significant potential for bilateral cooperation in various areas, including trade, economy, culture, education, energy, and transportation. He noted that the agreements signed in the energy sector—particularly in the field of renewable energy—provide a solid foundation for further collaboration:
“Azerbaijan is ready to invest in renewable energy sources in Vietnam,” the head of state stated.
President Aliyev also pointed to promising prospects in the defense industry, highlighting that this sector is well developed in both countries and could form the basis for joint ventures.
Special attention was given to cooperation within international organizations. Aliyev underlined Azerbaijan’s important role as the former chair of the Non-Aligned Movement and expressed confidence that strengthening this institution aligns with the interests of both countries.
“We also discussed the supremacy of international law, and there are no differences in our views. All issues must be resolved based on the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, and the inviolability of borders,” the President noted.
Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that To Lam’s visit would have a positive impact on the further development of Azerbaijan–Vietnam relations.
