Mammad Amin Rasulzade

Rasulzade was born on January 31, 1884, in the village of Novkhany, near Baku.

He made a significant contribution to shaping the idea of Azerbaijani statehood. His efforts were directed towards promoting the ideals of independence and the prosperity of his country. He is credited with the famous words: “The flag once raised will never fall!”, which became one of the slogans of Azerbaijani statehood.

From a young age, Mammad Amin Rasulzade was interested in politics, working with several opposition parties and organizations that opposed the Tsarist regime. He also wrote articles for various newspapers and magazines.

In 1909, under pressure from the Tsarist regime, Rasulzade moved to Iran, where he worked as a journalist.

After the collapse of the constitutional regime in Iran, he faced political pressure and was forced to move to Turkey in 1911.

After some time, Rasulzade returned to Baku, joined the Musavat Party, and in 1917, was elected its chairman.

In 1918, Rasulzade led the Azerbaijani National Council. Under his leadership, on May 28, 1918, the council declared the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

Mammad Amin Rasulzade passed away on March 6, 1955, in Ankara.
