He noted that the foreign ministers of Russia, Iran, and Turkey have proposed that Armenia and Azerbaijan use the “3+3” format to finalize a peace agreement. Lavrov emphasized that if Baku and Yerevan can reach an agreement directly, without intermediaries, it would be welcomed. Neighboring countries have already expressed their willingness to support this process.
Additionally, it was confirmed during the meeting that the door remains open for Georgia, and all participants hope that Tbilisi will join the “3+3” platform. Lavrov also mentioned that Russia maintains contacts with Georgia as needed, discussing important regional issues.
The minister expressed concern about the influence of non-regional players in the South Caucasus, promoting their interests and steering the region towards NATO involvement. Lavrov stated that such schemes foster tension between neighboring countries rather than solving regional problems.
According to Lavrov, Western countries continue their efforts to destabilize the situation in the region, including in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and are attempting to open a “second front” against Russia.
Speaking about the situation in Ukraine, Lavrov pointed out that every time Russia supports specific agreements, Kyiv violates them, leading to the loss of Ukrainian territories. He also added that Moscow has no interest in the secret addenda to President Volodymyr Zelensky’s “plan.”
Regarding recent statements from Kyiv about the possibility of Ukraine developing nuclear weapons, Lavrov called these ideas “mad” and stressed that Ukraine has no chance of realizing such plans.
