During his speech at the opening of the residential complex in Jabrayil, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the significance of liberating the city during the Second Karabakh War, noting that Jabrayil was the first city to be freed, which had a major impact on subsequent military operations and boosted the morale of the army and the entire nation. He pointed out that the liberation of Jabrayil had strategic importance, as it paved the way for advancing to key objectives, including Shusha and other critical territories.
The president also detailed the ongoing reconstruction efforts in the liberated territories, highlighting that roads, schools, hospitals, and residential buildings have already been built in Jabrayil. These projects reflect the state’s commitment to ensuring that citizens return to their homeland in decent living conditions. Aliyev also stressed the importance of employment for returning citizens, stating that foundations for new industrial enterprises have already been laid, which will create jobs for the local population.
Criticizing Armenia and the international community, Ilham Aliyev reminded the audience of the destruction caused by Armenian occupation forces in Jabrayil and other regions of Azerbaijan. He expressed his discontent with some Western countries that continue to support Armenia despite its aggression and widespread destruction. The president noted that these countries did not impose sanctions on Armenia during its occupation, which he called an example of double standards.
A key part of Aliyev’s speech was his warning to Armenia that any attempts to resume aggression will be met with a firm response. He emphasized that Azerbaijan will not allow the repetition of past mistakes and is ready to ensure its security by any means necessary. According to him, the Second Karabakh War should serve as a lesson for Armenia, and any destabilizing actions will be swiftly countered.
Concluding his speech, President Aliyev criticized the international community for its hypocrisy and double standards, mentioning that while many Western countries actively support Ukraine’s territorial integrity, they took a completely different stance regarding Azerbaijan. He underscored that Azerbaijan will always defend its rights and interests, regardless of external pressure, and that any threats or sanctions will not alter the country’s firm stance on matters of security and independence.
