The Armenian Ambassador to London, Varuzhan Nersesyan, “urgently requested clarifications” regarding the comments made by UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who noted that Azerbaijan had liberated its occupied territory during the conflict with Armenia. “Azerbaijan was able to reclaim the territory it lost in the early 1990s,” Lammy wrote in his blog.
In response, the Armenian diaspora mobilized all its lobbyists for an information campaign against the UK Foreign Secretary following his support for Azerbaijan’s de-occupation of its territories. The campaign involved not only lobbyists in the UK but also congressmen-lobbyists in the US.
Notably, much of the news condemning Lammy is actively disseminated through Armenian resources controlled by Pashinyan’s administration. This indicates that Yerevan still clings to ideas of revenge and continues to promote its interests behind the scenes, misleading everyone with claims of readiness for peace.
Today, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, in a meeting with US Deputy Assistant Secretary Joshua Huck, stated that Armenia urges Azerbaijan to avoid “artificial obstacles” on the path to concluding a peace treaty. Mirzoyan emphasized the need to avoid “artificial barriers” in the signing of a peace agreement that has been negotiated over two years. According to him, the signing of the agreed-upon document will ensure a peaceful environment in the South Caucasus.
Yerevan refers to Baku’s demand to amend its constitution, which still contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan in its preamble, as an “artificial obstacle.” Emboldened by support from the US and France, Yerevan believes it can dictate terms to Baku in the negotiations, once again attempting to deceive everyone, as it has done for the past 30 years with false promises and endless negotiations without results.
These events once again demonstrate how fragile peace in the region is due to Yerevan’s actions, which may eventually lead to serious consequences. It is a mistake to think that anyone will come to its defense. At most, one can expect statements of “deep concern”…
