This was stated in a press release from the UN. It noted that the UN is providing extensive support for the COP29 presidency.
“The UN Climate Change Secretariat (UNFCCC) is providing technical support to the COP29 presidency in areas such as negotiations, operations (such as conference management and logistics), and stakeholder engagement. In addition, the parties to the UNFCCC, along with other UN bodies, are coordinating support to build the capacity of the COP29 presidency team and other parties,” the document states.
The UN is establishing a Support Working Group for Azerbaijan in the COP29 process, co-chaired by the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Climate Action and Just Transition, Selwin Charles Hart, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Vladanka Andreeva.
“The working group includes representatives from about 25 UN agencies, funds, and programs that will coordinate the provision of technical support for initiatives under the COP29 presidency.
At the national level, the UN team is working with all stakeholders to mobilize Azerbaijan’s efforts in combating climate change. For example, the UN office in Azerbaijan, together with partners, has launched an initiative called ’29 Climate Talks: The Road to COP29′ to start a nationwide dialogue and work on climate action and just transition across the country.
Additionally, the UN team in the country is focusing on engaging Azerbaijan’s youth in the lead-up to and during COP29 to motivate, educate, and mobilize young people in the country, empowering them to act and participate in addressing climate change issues,” the UN press release notes.
