The concert, organized by the New York-based National Music and Global Cultural Society, was attended by diplomats from permanent missions to the United Nations and local music lovers.
Opening the concert, the Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, pianist, Professor Nargiz Aliyarova told the audience about the life and work of Gara Garayev. Then Nargiz Aliyarova together with prominent American violinist Melissa White performed with the utmost professionalism Gara Garayev’s “Sonata for Violin and Piano” and “Adagio” from the ballet Seven Beauties. The Azerbaijani pianist also performed Gara Garayev’s “Preludes for Piano”.
The concert evening continued with renditions of works by Johannes Brahms, Edvard Grieg, and Frédéric Chopin.
At the end of the concert, which was of great importance in terms of promoting Azerbaijani culture, the audience gave the performers a standing ovation.
Along with other sponsors, support for this project was provided by the State Committee on Work with Diaspora.
The 599-seat Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall opened in 2003 and has become one of the hottest places in New York City to see performances of classical, pop, jazz, and world music artists.
