The Embassy’s Twitter account shared a publication, in which the author calls on the world not to forget about the non-existent “Artsakh”, shedding crocodile tears over the fact that “Artsakh” is supposedly celebrating the New Year “under a total blockade”. For the French diplomats’ information, the Karabakh region is an integral part of Azerbaijan, and the rights and safety of the Armenian population living in that region are an internal affair of our country. One can assume that the officials of the French embassy have no basic knowledge of geography and jurisprudence. But it seems more likely to be a deliberate provocation.
The main reason behind this boorish behavior of the French diplomats is that France still cannot come to terms with its defeat in the UN Security Council on the eve of 2023. You may recall that on December 20-21, France and Armenia convened a UN Security Council meeting to discuss the situation on the Lachin road. Immediately after the December 20-21 discussions, a hypocritical and entirely pro-Armenian statement was drafted in which the situation on the Lachin road was described as a “humanitarian crisis”. The diplomatic battle over the text of the statement went on for 10 days. From France, the process was managed directly by the administration of the French president and Macron’s foreign policy advisors.
It is no coincidence that President Ilham Aliyev hinted at his meeting with members of the Community of Western Azerbaijan that malicious anti-Azerbaijani efforts were being pursued in a number of international institutions. Before that, Azerbaijan had also said that anti-Azerbaijani activities in Francophonie and some other international organizations were regrettable.
These actions of the French-Armenian tandem became yet another Armenian treason against Russia and a display of gross disrespect for the US-backed peace treaty negotiations, as well as an attempt to deceive the international community as a whole. But France, as a member of the UN Security Council, failed to have the statement on the situation on the Lachin road adopted in 10 days, which was literally a great disgrace for Paris.
First of all, the phrase “Nagorno-Karabakh” was removed from the pro-Armenian statement. Then it was specified that humanitarian aid can only be based on respect for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Then such expressions as support of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was added. After the 6th or 7th revision, when the document became de-facto pro-Azerbaijani, official Paris rejected it altogether. It is noteworthy that the world community, permanent and non-permanent members of the UN Security Council were also convinced of France’s hypocrisy and openly acknowledged it.
France went to disgusting lengths in 2022 to get into the Caucasus. On September 15, the French Senate passed a disgraceful resolution calling for sanctions against Azerbaijan. On September 18, when Armenian vandals attacked the Embassy of Azerbaijan in France, law enforcement officials did not take any action to prevent Armenian vandalism. On September 30, the National Assembly of France unanimously passed a biased resolution demanding to stop Azerbaijan’s “aggression” against Armenia. In reality, the above-mentioned resolutions are nothing but scraps of paper that absolutely brazenly and cynically encourage separatism of the Armenian population living in the territory temporarily controlled by the Russian peacekeeping contingent.
The lack of foresight on the part of French politicians is causing great reputational damage to France itself. With their small minds, the political dwarfs dominating French politics fail to realize that with each new provocation against our country, France becomes increasingly isolated from the region where Azerbaijan plays a key role in the geopolitical processes today.
