The Ministry said Georgia’s progress on European integration had also been on the agenda of the meeting, with the Minister noting it was also “very important” for Azerbaijan to have access to a “very large” European market through Georgia.
The Georgian official said both countries had expressed willingness to increase cargo turnover and flow carried through Georgia and Azerbaijan to the West and Central Asian countries, noting “there are all preconditions for this and I think we will have very clear agreements”.
He noted the sides also discussed cooperation in new areas including digital transformation, cooperation in the tourism sector, and investment in tourism infrastructure, adding the implementation of joint tourism projects and “presentation of the region internationally on the world map” were also reviewed. Davitashvili called Azerbaijan a “strategic” and “one of the main economic partners” of Georgia with which the country implemented “many projects of international importance.”
Bilateral cooperation in the field of energy is becoming especially important to ensure energy independence and energy security not only at the level of our countries, but also in relation to Europe’s energy security,” he added.
Davitashvili held meetings with Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, other officials of the country, and representatives of Azerbaijani gas distribution company SOCAR.
The Georgian high official is paying a two-day official visit as part of a delegation that also includes Deputy Economy Ministers Guram Guramishvili and Romeo Mikautadze.
